Control the program using the keyboard
You can control the program using the keyboard. If you want to place objects and draw connections, you must have a mouse.
Keyboard shortcut | Effect |
Alt + Enter | Opens the Properties dialog for the selected item. |
Alt + F4 | Exits the program. If changed models have not yet been saved, the system displays a message to notify you. You can decide whether or not to save the changes. |
Alt + <letter> | Enables buttons in dialogs. The buttons with an underlined letter can be enabled in this way. |
Arrow Down arrow | Moves the modeling area contents up (the contents of the modeling area that are further down will be displayed). |
Arrow Left arrow | Moves the modeling area contents to the right (the contents of the modeling area that are further left will be displayed). |
Arrow Right arrow | Moves the modeling area contents to the left (the contents of the modeling area that are further right will be displayed). |
Arrow Up arrow | Moves the model modeling area contents down (the contents of the modeling area that are further up will be displayed). |
Asterisk key (*) on the numeric keypad | Places the entire model or selected objects entirely in the visible area. |
Del | Removes selected items. |
Ctrl + A | Selects all items. |
Ctrl + Alt + T | Opens the Tab overview. |
Ctrl + C | Copies selected items to the clipboard. This enables you to paste copied items from the clipboard into models/diagrams and into other Windows programs. If you paste items into ARIS models/UML diagrams, they have their ARIS/UML-specific properties, e. g., attributes. If you paste them into other Windows programs, only the graphic in EMF format is used. |
Ctrl + E | Shows connected objects (navigation mode). |
Ctrl + End | Displays the bottom right pane of the window. |
Ctrl + Enter | Inserts a line break for free-form texts, object names, etc., or ends the input. This depends on whether you have enabled the Use Enter for line break (press 'Ctrl + Enter' for changes to take effect) check box or not (ARIS > Options > Model > General > Objects). |
Ctrl + F | Opens the Find dialog for you to search the entire database for items. |
Ctrl + F1 | Opens Method help. |
Ctrl + F2 | Opens the print preview. |
Ctrl + F4 | Closes the active modeling area. |
Ctrl + Down arrow | Moves selected items downwards by increments of one pixel. |
Ctrl + Left arrow | Moves selected items to the left by increments of one pixel. |
Ctrl + Right arrow | Moves selected items to the right by increments of one pixel. |
Ctrl + Up arrow | Moves selected items upwards by increments of one pixel. |
Ctrl + Home | Displays the top left pane of the modeling area. |
Ctrl + Page down | Switches to the next tab from left to right. |
Ctrl + Page up | Switches to the next tab from right to left. |
Ctrl + S | Saves your changes. |
Ctrl + Shift + F4 | Closes all tabs and opens a new tab. If changed models have not yet been saved, the system displays a message to notify you. You can decide whether or not to save the changes. |
Ctrl + Shift + V | Generates definition copies of the selected items. |
Ctrl + V | Pastes the content of the clipboard, if this is content that can be placed in the modeling area. Generates occurrence copies of the selected items in the model. |
Ctrl + X | Cuts selected items and copies them to the clipboard. |
Ctrl + Y | Redoes editing steps that were undone. |
Ctrl + Z | Undoes preceding editing steps. |
Enter | Inserts a line break for free-form texts, object names, etc., or ends the input. This depends on whether you have enabled the Use Enter for line break (press 'Ctrl + Enter' for changes to take effect) check box or not (ARIS > Options > Model > General > Objects). |
Esc | Removes selections and closes dialogs. Closing dialogs with the ESC key is the same as clicking Cancel. |
F1 | Opens the embedded help for each dialog. |
F2 | Selects the selected text attribute of an element or the object name of a selected object for editing. |
F5 | Updates the current view based on the database changes. |
F6 | Toggles the connection mode ( |
F7 | Runs an item's link that is entered as an attribute (System attributes > Link). |
F8 | Opens Attribute Editing for selected items. |
F10 | Activates the tab overview and tab bars. |
Minus key (-) | Reduces the model by 10%. |
Page Down | Moves the modeling area contents up (the contents of the modeling area that are further down will be displayed). |
Page Up | Moves the model modeling area contents down (the contents of the modeling area that are further up will be displayed). |
Plus key (+) | Enlarges the model by 10%. |
Shift + Del | Deletes a structurally relevant object without creating a connection between the remaining objects when you use Smart Modeling. |
Shift + Left arrow | Moves selected objects to the left by increments of one gridline. |
Shift + Up arrow | Moves selected objects upwards by increments of one gridline. |
Shift + Right arrow | Moves selected objects to the right by increments of one gridline. |
Shift + Down arrow | Moves selected objects downwards by increments of one gridline. |
Tab | Opens the Select object dialog if you have entered at least two letters from the name of an object. |
