What data can be backed up individually?

Administrators have multiple alternatives for manually backing up data.

Databases

  • In ARIS Architect on the Administration tab, using the Back up database Backup functionality in the pop-up menu of a database.

  • In ARIS Server Administrator, using the Backup or backupasn commands.

    Errors may occur with large backup files (ADB) and during database recovery. If errors occur during backup or while restoring, use the backup mechanism in your database management system (DBMS). Make sure that sufficient disk space is available for restoring large databases. This may exceed the memory requirements stated in the document ARIS System Requirements.

Filters

  • In ARIS Architect on the 'Administration' tab, using the function Export Export.

  • In ARIS Server Administrator, using the backupsystemdb command.

Automatic backup

When ARIS server is started, the configuration files are saved in the file backup_sysconfig.zip. This file is saved in the sysconfig directory. If required, you can open this file using an extraction program and restore the files of the sysconfig directory.

When you perform an update, make changes to a program, the relevant files and directories are backed up. A selection of files is listed here to provide examples:

In a client installation in the directory <ARIS installation directory>\backup<date>:

  • Directory <ARIS installation directory>\html

  • Directory <ARIS installation directory>\script

In a server installation in the directory <ARIS installation directory>\server\backup:

  • Files from <ARIS installation directory>\server\data (user databases, when uninstalling)

  • Directory <ARIS installation directory>\server\sysconfig

  • Directory <ARIS installation directory>\server\templates

User attributes of the Free attributes attribute type group from previous ARIS versions are no longer used. You can now customize attribute type groups and attribute types.

To be able to continue using user attributes from previous versions you must import the previous filters that contain all user attributes of the database. These user attributes are created and thus become visible only due to the filter import. Please restore the database of the previous version on your current ARIS server after the import.
