Insert objects using drag and drop

You can quickly insert existing objects in your model as a representative of the source object (occurrence copy) or as the basis for a new object (definition copy). This functionality is offered for models within a database. If you copy objects from one model to another model where they have a different symbol representation, the object symbols will automatically be converted.

If you cannot copy objects from one modeling area to the other because of different method filters, you will receive a corresponding message.

Quick video

  1. Enable the Objects check box of the Explorer tree.

  2. In the Explorer tree, open the group containing the relevant object.

  3. Click the object name and hold down the mouse button.

  4. Drag the object to the position in the model where it is to be placed.

  5. Release the mouse button.

You have created an occurrence copy of the object. Thus, a new graphical representation of the source object is created. If you change the attributes of this occurrence, such as the name, the name of all occurrences of the source object is changed in all models.

  2. In the Explorer tree, open the group containing the object.

  3. Right-click the object name and hold down the mouse button.

  4. Drag the object to the position in the model where it is to be placed. The pop-up menu opens.

You have created a definition copy. A new, independent object is now available, whose attributes you can change as necessary without changing the source object of the copy.
